The Miraculous Staircase by Len Saltiel // Loretto Chapel, Santa Fe
“Completed in 1878, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Carpenters were called in to address the challenge but the only solution seemed to be a ladder given the small size of the chapel. The Sisters of the Chapel prayed to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters.
As legend would have it, a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. He built this staircase which has two 360 degree turns and no visible means of support. Once completed, the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks and many concluded that he was St. Joseph himself, having come in answer to the sisters’ prayers. Even today, experts are perplexed and amazed at its construction and design. Whether you believe the legend or not, it is an amazing staircase.”
No reason to freak out, it’s just a kitty-copter (or, is it Heli-kitty)!! After mourning the loss of his cat, what better way to preserve it’s memory than to turn it into a toy helicopter.
Perks of Being a Wallflower trailer!
Excited, because sometimes, I’m a 14 year old girl.
New Work has been added to my web-folio, www.emeraldgrippa.com. Above are my latest commissioned illustrations. I was given lyrics from 3 different Rod Stewart songs, “Dixie Toot”, “You wear it well” & (my personal favorite)”Stay with me”.
Genius.
Ha.
Fuck you.
If you like something, pay for it. Stop devaluing products that add value because you’re a cheap piece of shit.
Sorry for the swears. As a person that creates things and loves people that create things, the sentiment of define-your-own-value (often set at $0) pisses me off.
The humor isn’t lost on me. The sentiment behind it is that of a person a greatly disagree with.
I understand cases like foreign television and Game of Thrones, where no real option to pay for something is available, but pirating games you play, software you use, and music you like, in hopes of sending some message of “it doesn’t fit my poorly-structured budget” is a real dick move.

I’m not sure I could be pulling for Kyle O’Quinn any harder. The fact that he’s likely to be a success at anything he does makes me want to see him in the NBA even more.
This is exactly why I love college basketball so much. This guy gets it too. It’s about being a Student-Athlete, not an Athletic-Student. Kyle O’Quinn came on strong for his team at just the right time last year, and as a result is getting a lot of well deserved recognition. So, what does he do with his spotlight? He starts a Basketball camp in his hometown to give back to the kids and community he loves so much and supported him. I’m hoping the very best for this kid.
Just ran across these old pictures from being on tour. We were out on the road with Thao & the Get Down, Stay Down, and the Portland Cello Project. These pictures are from four sold-out shows and easily some of the best times I’ve ever had playing music:
- Black Cat (Washington D.C.
- TT the Bear (Boston, MA)
- Starr-Hill (Charlottesville, VA)
- Bowery Ballroom (New York, NY)

Richmond now has an official arts district. Find out just how big it is and what it means for downtown revitalization and development.
This is potentially really HUGE for Richmond!
Soundtrack thus far today, the brand new Walkmen album. It’s pretty dang good.

“JCPenney June Book Features Gay Dads”
Made my morning!
JCPenney has put out another gorgeous ad featuring a same-sex couple, this time two dads and their two kids in honor of Father’s Day. It seems pretty clear that One Million Moms had less than no effect on JCPenney. (Other than perhaps inspiring JCP to keep moving forward seeing how desperately ads like this are needed.)
Looks like I will have to try JCPenney again? Haven’t thought about them in 20 years, but with this awesome ad and their courage to hold their ground despite opposition; I’ll support that.
